Football Manager Off-Season Market: $21 Profit

Between seasons in a football manager game, most managers think about who to sign. I think about that too — but this off-season I also paid attention to the other side of the equation. The players leaving. In Lazy Football, every player has marketplace value, and a squad with 47 players has a lot of dead weight sitting in roster slots that could be turned into something useful.

The result: Chain Rovers entered S11 with a stronger squad, a leaner roster, and $21.27 USDC more than I started with. Not a bad off-season.

The Plan: Trim and Sell, Then Reinforce

At the end of S10, Chain Rovers had 47 players. That's too many. A lot of those were low-power veterans — players between 200 and 550 power who hadn't seen the starting eleven in seasons and weren't going to. They occupied roster space without contributing anything. Some were old enough that training wouldn't move the needle anymore.

The plan was simple: identify who had actual marketplace value, list them, and use the proceeds to fund the next phase. Not every player sells — the market is real, with real buyers who decide what they're willing to pay. But enough of them did.

Six USDC Sales, One Crafted Flip

The biggest sale was Mohammad Kunkler, my backup goalkeeper. Power 709, age 24 — still young enough to develop, decent enough to start for a mid-table team. He went for 11.00 USDC. For context, Kunkler had been a solid backup for two seasons but became redundant the moment Martin Lapadula arrived at 1,814 power. Ward Winrow (1,019) is the backup now. There's no room for a third keeper.

Then there was the Sulloway flip. I crafted three players on the same day: Max Caddick (AM), Cedrick Roperto (CF), and Darrell Sulloway (GK). Caddick and Roperto both landed strong enough to contribute — I covered the details in the off-season squad rebuild article. Sulloway was a goalkeeper I didn't need, so I listed him immediately and he sold for 7.00 USDC. Craft cost was negligible. That's a clean profit on a player who was on the roster for less than a day.

The rest: Bradly Elridge (CD, 1.50), Quentin Ostermann (RM, 1.20), Terrance Dottery (CF, 1.00), and Desmond Carmouche (RM, 0.87). None of them were starters. All had some marketplace value because of age or position.

Total USDC earned from sales: 22.57.

Two Lazy Sales and Four Releases

Not everything sells for USDC. Jewell Sinard (LW, 343 power) and Lowell Brinkmeier (CD, 319) went for Lazy — 39,000 and 31,500 respectively. Small numbers, but it adds up when you're funding other operations.

Four players — Garfield Leuchs, Rayford Duquette, Abdul Bresette, and Andrea Hartley — were released outright. All over 28, all under 460 power, none with realistic marketplace appeal. Sometimes a player's value is exactly zero and that's fine. Letting them go opened roster slots for players who actually matter.

One USDC Purchase: the New Right Defender

On the buying side, I picked up Jonathon Siriano (RD) from Lazy Meta for just 1.30 USDC. That's my only USDC spend this window. Net USDC position: +21.27. Siriano fills a defensive need — right-back depth behind Brock Holleman. If you're curious about how player stats work at different positions, I wrote a full breakdown in the skills guide.

The big money went into Lapadula (1,714,500 Lazy + 7 gems) — but that was Lazy currency, not USDC. Different pocket. In terms of how the in-game economy actually works and what these numbers mean for a manager's budget, the economy review goes into much more detail.

The Balance Sheet

USDC: +22.57 from six sales, -1.30 on Siriano. Net: +21.27 USDC.

Lazy: +70,500 from two sales, -1,714,500 on Lapadula, -6,000 on three crafts. Net: -1,650,000 Lazy.

The Lazy spend looks heavy, but that's almost entirely Lapadula — a goalkeeper who jumped Chain Rovers' P11 by nearly 800 points in a single transfer. That kind of power in one slot doesn't come cheap. It's the difference between competing and watching. The USDC side stayed positive because I was methodical about selling players who had value but no role.

Squad size: 47 down to 40. Seven fewer mouths to feed, seven fewer players blocking training rotations. Leaner roster, higher floor.

Game Day 1: 0-0 vs Arbitrageus

And then the season started. Chain Rovers kicked off S11 in Northern Windsland D1 against Arbitrageus with a P11 of 14,151 versus their 13,133. Over a thousand points of advantage. The result? 0-0.

Football. Sometimes you have more power, more depth, the better squad on paper — and nothing goes in. It's Game Day 1. One draw across 30 game days isn't a crisis. It happened last season too, and we finished with 27 wins and zero losses. The important thing is the squad is ready, the roster is clean, and the work done between seasons is already paying off in raw numbers.

Still. A win would have been nicer.

What I Learned About the Marketplace

A few observations from doing this deliberately rather than just dumping players:

Young goalkeepers sell well. Kunkler at 709 power went for 11.00 USDC — more than any other sale — because GK is a high-demand position and 24 is a good development age. Position matters as much as raw power when pricing.

Crafting for profit is viable but risky. Sulloway worked because I got a goalkeeper (scarce position) and listed quickly. If the craft had landed a 500-power player at an oversupplied position, the flip wouldn't have happened. If you want to understand the craft variance, the crafting results article has real numbers.

Timing matters. The off-season is when managers are shopping. Listing players between seasons means more eyes on your listings than mid-season when everyone is focused on game days.
