Pre-Season: How to Prepare Right

Season break in Lazy Football is the most underrated part of this football manager game — and the biggest advantage if you use it right. While most managers relax between seasons, I trained aggressively, timed upgrades, and scouted every opponent. Here's the complete pre-season checklist that got Chain Rovers ready for Season 7.

What Happens Between Seasons

When a season ends in Lazy Football, there's a transition period. Promotions and relegations are processed. New divisions form. And critically — energy resets. Every player's energy is set to 80% plus your Fitness Center level — so with FC level 1 you start at 81%, and with FC level 20 you start at 100%. That's why upgrading the Fitness Center matters even between seasons.

This means the break is your chance to:

  • Train aggressively — no matches to save energy for, so train everyone
  • Plan upgrades — queue building upgrades that finish before season start
  • Scout the division — check who got promoted/relegated into your group
  • Review your squad — identify gaps, sell dead weight, plan Youth Academy pulls

My Pre-Season Checklist

What I did before Season 7:

  1. Maxed out training — every slot filled, running 23-hour training cycles back to back. With no matches to worry about, I trained all my young players non-stop. If you're not sure how to prioritize training slots, my training system guide breaks it all down.
  2. Upgraded TC to level 16 — timed the upgrade to finish 2 days before season start.
  3. Pulled 3 new Youth Academy players — got a 21-year-old with decent base stats. Immediately started training him.
  4. Checked opponent Power11 — looked at the teams in my division, identified the top 3 threats and the bottom 3 easy wins.
  5. Set a formation and style — committed to 4-3-3 balanced. Consistency matters more than constant switching.

Understanding the Tournament Structure

For new players, Lazy Football's tournament structure works like real football:

  • Regional Championship — your main league. 16 teams per division, home and away matches. Top teams promote, bottom teams relegate.
  • Champions League — the elite tournament. Only the best teams qualify.
  • Contenders League — for teams that just missed CL qualification.
  • Amateur Conference — entry-level cup competition.

Each season is roughly 30 game days. Every game day you can have 1-2 matches. That's 30-50 matches total — enough for your preparation to make a real difference.

Chain Rovers Going Into Season 7

Office level 18. Training Center level 16. Squad power roughly 6,500 total. We're not favorites, but we're competitive. I think a top-half finish is realistic, maybe even a promotion push if things break right.

The beauty of this football manager game is that every season feels meaningful because nothing resets (except energy). Your squad carries over. Your buildings carry over. Every day of preparation compounds. To see how far that compounding took us, read about my 10-season journey to the Champions League.
