My FM Journey: 10 Seasons, 0 Titles

Ten seasons into Lazy Football — one of the most addictive football manager games I've played — and I'm back. Not because I won anything, but because the story is too good not to tell. Chain Rovers just finished the group stage of the Champions League. Yes, the team I started from absolute zero, starting with a P11 of 3,700. We're in the Champions League now. Still chasing that first league title though.

How We Got Here: The Road to Champions League

Quick recap if you're new: I started playing this football manager game about a year ago. Built Chain Rovers from scratch — level 1 buildings, terrible squad, no idea what I was doing. Through daily training, smart upgrades, and a lot of 2am sessions from Rafaela, we climbed.

Season after season, we improved. Promoted through the divisions. And this season — Season 10 — we qualified for the Champions League group stage. The big leagues. If you want to understand how training compounds over time, read my complete training guide — it's the single most important mechanic.

Champions League: A Different Beast

Honestly: the Champions League is humbling. In our regional division, we're one of the strongest teams. In the CL? We're a small fish.

Our league phase record: 8 matches, 2 wins, 3 draws, 3 losses. 10 goals scored, 5 conceded. 9 points — 21st out of 32 teams. Not amazing, but enough to qualify for the Knockout Phase Play-offs. In the Champions League, places 9-24 advance to a two-legged knockout round before the Round of 16.

We drew Somnia143 (Power11: 13,018 vs our 11,803). First leg away — we won 2-0. I thought we had it. Second leg at home — they crushed us 3-0. Aggregate: 2-3. Out.

It stings. We had the advantage after the first leg and couldn't hold it. But honestly? Just being in the CL knockout stage with a team I built from scratch feels incredible. The match engine in Lazy Football rewards good tactics — we proved that in the first leg. We just didn't have the depth to sustain it over two matches. I break down how tactics and energy management work if you want the details.

The Championship That Keeps Slipping Away

Meanwhile in our regional league — Eastern Iceland D1 — we're having an incredible season. But there's a problem. His name is Styler.

The numbers: 27 matches played. Chain Rovers have 24 wins, 3 draws, 0 losses. 129 goals scored, just 1 conceded. And we're STILL second. Styler has 25 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss — 76 points to our 75. They've scored 159 goals and conceded only 3.

It's frustrating. We have the best defensive record in the division by far. Zero defeats. But Styler is a machine. Their Power11 is 12,612 to our 11,803. That gap is small on paper but enough to keep them one step ahead.

Three game days left. One point behind. It's going to come down to the wire.

What I've Learned After 10 Seasons

A year of playing Lazy Football taught me a few things that apply to any football manager game — and maybe to life:

  • Consistency beats talent. Daily training, daily upgrades, daily management. The boring stuff is what wins.
  • You can't control everything. Sometimes the match engine doesn't go your way. The opponent had a lucky draw. Accept it, move on, prepare better.
  • The journey matters more than the trophy. I haven't won a championship yet. But taking a team from 0-3 losses to Champions League? That's the real story.
  • Small community, big rivalries. Everyone knows each other. Styler and I have been battling all season. That personal rivalry makes every match day exciting.
